About

When Brian and I met in Feb 2013 we discovered our shared passion for adventure and travel on two wheels. Our initial tour in May 2014 was from London to Japan. Two and half years on a bike, living in a tent, cycling the length of the Himalayas… and we stayed together!

We now call Te-Whanganui-a-Tara (Wellington) our home in Aotearoa (New Zealand) and will be on the road again from May 2024 to May 2025, cycling Europe and SE Asia.

Why Donkey and Horse?

We’re often asked this so thought it worth giving an explanation. Brian is from the Republic of Ireland where ‘Donkey’ and ‘Horse’ are used as names of endearment. After a while they’ve stuck, Brian is Donkey and I’m Horse, lovely 🙂

  1. What an interesting adventure you’re on. I’ve loved reading the posts from your rave review of Cappadocia’s snow, cuppas on the bus, and cave dwellings, to being charged by a bull elephant in Sri Lanka!

Thanks for sharing – I’ll keep watching. Jae

  2. Hallo, we’ve just met your mum in the Eden Project and she was telling us about your fantastic adventure. I told her we always follow our son on his cycling adventures so expect a new domestique off the next plane! We’ve sent your blog to our son.

    Aye,

    Jean and Graham Kemp, Scotland.

    • Hi Jean Graham, lovely to hear you met my magically mum and awesome to hear your son likes to travel by bike, there really is no other way once you get started! Please tell him to ask us any questions about planning, getting on the road, equipment etc though all you really need is a sense of adventure and a couple of wheels 😉 Thanks for your note and all the best from us in the Himalayas!
